There are many times that you will need to do this as homework, so having a copy of your own work, rather than the tutor's work, is always helpful. You can always print out your homework and hand i t to the tutor when you have finished it.Tutors that work on an hourly rate usually have the tools available that you need. Should I Go To Middlebury College
Should I Go To Middlebury College The tutors behind Varsity Tutors are not just here to teach theyre sharing their college experiences as well. Caroline is a San Francisco-Bay Area tutor and 2014 graduate of Middlebury College. She holds a Bachelors degree in International and Global Studies and tutors several subjects, including Italian tutoring, Pre-Algebra tutoring, and Spanish tutoring. Check out what Caroline had to say about her time at Middlebury College: VT: Describe the campus setting and transportation options. How urban or safe is the campus? Are there buses or do you need a car/bike? Caroline: Middlebury College is located in one of the most beautiful places in the country: rural Vermont. Every fall, campus is full of red, gold, and orange leaves. Every winter, white snow blankets the ground. Campusis always very safe, and I never felt uncomfortable walking around by myself at any time day or night. Lots of students bike around campus and the surrounding areas. Others do have cars. A car is helpful if you want to go for a day trip or weekend getaway to the city. There are some buses available too. You never feel completely trapped, as it is easy to get off campus when you need to! VT: How available are the professors, academic advisers, and teaching assistants? Caroline:Professors at Middlebury College really want their students to succeed. All classes are taught by professors, so we do not have many teaching assistants. Every professor has office hours at least twice a week, and they are also available outside of those times as long as you make an appointment. Professors genuinely want to get to know their students, and I had one professor invite my class over to his house for Thanksgiving. Academic advisers also want to get to know their students outside of the classroom. VT: How would you describe the dorm life rooms, dining options, location, socialization opportunities with other students? Caroline:Most students live on campusduring all four years of their time at Middlebury College, which is awesome! There is never a dull moment on campus. The dorms get better as you get older (i.e. you move from a traditional dorm into suite-style living). There is no traditional meal plan; all students are on the same plan, which allows you to eat as much or as little as you want at any time. The dining halls try really hard to get their food locally, and they prepare great meals. VT: Which majors/programs are best represented and supported? What did you study and why? Did the university do a good job supporting your particular area of study? Caroline:I was an International and Global Studies major with a focus in Geography and Spanish. I love to travel and learn about different cultures, so this major appealed to me because I got to explore the relationships between the land, the people, the politics, and the economy. International and Global Studies is one of the bigger majors at Middlebury College, so there are many different tracks in it, and it is well supported. Other big majors include Economics, Environmental Studies, Political Science, and Sociology/Anthropology. VT: How easy or difficult was it for you to meet people and make friends as a freshman? Does Greek life play a significant role in the campus social life? Caroline:Middlebury College does not have Greek life on the campus, and I loved it for that. There was no pressure to join anything, and you were able to create a social life based off the clubs and sports that interested you. It is very easy to meet people as a freshman. Between your dorm and your classes, it is almost impossible not to make any friends. Also, all of the sports and clubs are super welcoming and always looking for new members! VT: How helpful is the Career Centerand other student support services?Do many reputable companies recruit on campus? Caroline:The Career Center definitely wants to start helping students as soon as they step on campus. They host events and workshops for students in all years, and they have drop-in hours every day. One of the greatest things about the Career Center is the summer funding for unpaid internships. Middlebury College wants to make it possible for students to complete all kinds of summer internships regardless of whether they are paid. I got summer funding to complete an unpaid internship in Santiago, Chile during my junior year, and I had an amazing experience! VT: How are the various study areas such aslibraries, the student union, and dorm lounges? Are they over-crowded, easily available, spacious? Caroline:There are tons of different study spots around campus, and they cater to everyone. The library gets crowded during finals, but otherwise you can always find a study spot somewhere. I loved the big, comfortable chairs and nooks in BiHall, the science building. The Grille and Crossroads Cafe in the student center are great places to work on group projects and to get a quick snack too! VT: Describe the surrounding town. What kinds of outside establishments / things to do are there that make it fun, boring, or somewhere in between? To what extent do students go to the downtown area of the city versus staying near campus? Caroline:If you like outdoor activities, you will never find a shortage of places to go outside of Middlebury College. We own our own ski mountain for students to go skiing in the winter. The Green Mountains and the Adirondacks are nearby, and so is Lake Champlain. The town of Middlebury has a ton of great restaurants, plus a movie theater and an indoor miniature golf course. VT: How big or small is the student body? Were you generally pleased or displeased with the typical class sizes? Caroline:The student body is about 2,400 people, so classes are fairly small. The average class size is 20-30 students, which I thought was perfect. There are enough people to have discussions, but not so many that you are never heard. You do get some bigger and some smaller classes, however. My smallest was six people, and my largest was 80. The average class size was a great size for me, and you also get to know your professors much better this way. VT: Describe one memorable experience with a professor and/or class. Perhaps one you loved the most or one youregretthe most. Caroline:One of my favorite classes at Middlebury College was my Introduction to Geography class. In addition to being super interesting, the professor was awesome. (He later became my adviser.) He had a sense of humor in all of his lectures, and he dressed up as the continent of Africa for Halloween. He also had us work on semester-long projects where we all got to go on a field trip at the end to see the different places that we had been researching! Check out Carolines tutoring profile. 4 Things to Listen For During Your Student Loan Exit Interview
4 Things to Listen For During Your Student Loan Exit Interview Your final semester of collegeis an exciting time you've finished your classes, said goodbye to your friends, and begun to transition to a new stage in your life. If you borrowed money to pay for school, your student loans are likely one of the last things on your mind right now. But they should be. You may also find thisinterview with a financial aid experthelpful as well.In your student loan exit interview, which is often conducted by the financial aid office at your college, you will have the opportunity to ask essential financial questions. Here are four things to listen for during your student loan exit interview: 1. Basic information about your loans If you are not familiar with the type and amount of loans you have taken out, this is the perfect time to speak with someone about the basics of your student loans. Have you taken out public or private loans? What is the nature of your accrued interest and capitalized interest? It is also very helpful to know about the National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS). In order to access the NSLDS, which is where the U.S. Department of Education houses information for all federal student aid, you will use your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) pin number. Keep in mind, however, that if you have taken out private student loans, this database wont list them. These arethree questions you may want to ask your college about financial aid. 2. Possible loan forgiveness The topic of loan forgiveness is something to listen for during your student loan exit interview. Take the time to inquire about possible public service loan forgiveness. This is a federal program that forgives federal student loans. In order to qualify for this program, you have to be employed full-time in an eligible public service or non-profit job. In addition, you must make 120 eligible on-time payments in less than 10 years. Some nuances that you may not know about are that payments do not need to be consecutive, and that your qualification has to do more with whom you work for, not what you do. If you already have a job lined up, you can also ask your employer about job eligibility for loan forgiveness. 3. Repayment plan options Other information that is important to listen for during your student loan interview includes your repayment plan options. The standard repayment plan is 10 years. With this option, you will be able to get rid of your debt quickly, with the least amount of interest (prepayment is also an option at any time). However, its valuable to know your other options as well for instance, the graduated plan, in which monthly payments start low and increase every few years for between 10 and 30 years, or the extended plans (fixed or graduated), which allow you up to 25 years to repay your loans. Remember that extended repayment plans are only for borrowers who have taken out amounts over $30,000. Depending on your future job, as well as your other financial priorities (including family obligations), youll want to consider all of your options and choose which will suit you best. 4. Financial literacy tips The student loan exit interview is also a great time to learn more about financial literacy. It is popular on some campuses to hold workshops, or even short courses, on this topic. Regardless of whether you have had these opportunities, you can still find out some financial literacy tips during your exit counseling. Ask about budgeting, using debit and credit cards, and how to build good credit. There are some online programs that can help with making and sticking to budgets, for example. After college, you may be making larger purchases or spending money in ways that require good credit like renting an apartment. If you are looking to maximize your financial aidthese 6 tips may help you. When you go into your student loan exit interview which could be one-on-one or in a small group make sure that your contact information is up-to-date with your loan servicers, and that you know how you can contact them should the need arise. This way, youll be able to make sure you receive and return payments in a timely manner. Soon, youll be able to start your post-graduate life on the right foot.
Online Dividing Monomials Tutoring - Dividing Monomials Help
Online Dividing Monomials Tutoring - Dividing Monomials Help Dividing monomials deals with the problems of dividing monomial expressions. Monomial expression is an expression consists of single term. Dividing monomials is the basic concept on dividing polynomials. Use laws of exponent on dividing variables. Monomial division starts with dividing the coefficients and for dividing variables we must follow the rules of exponents which means when we divide like variable subtract the powers. The following examples clearly illustrate the steps involved in dividing monomials. Example 1: Divide (12x^3y^-2) / 4y^-1x^2 Solution: First divide the coefficients 12/-4 = 3 Then divide the variables (like terms) As per law of exponents, subtract the powers on division. x^3 / x^2 = x^1 = x y^-2 / y^-1 = y^-2-(-1) = y^-1 Therefore the answer is 3xy^-1 Example 2: The area of a rectangle is 48s^7t^4. If length of rectangle is 8s^4t then what is the width of the rectangle? Solution: The area of rectangle = 48s^7t^4 The length of rectangle = 8s^4t We know Area = length * width Here length and Area is given. Plug in the values, we get, 48s^7t^4 = 8s^4t / w Width w = 48s^7t^4 / 8s^4t First divide the coefficients and then divide the variables, 48/8 = 5 s^7t^4 / s^4t = s^3 t^3 Therefore the width of rectangle is 5s^3 t^3 Example 3: Divide 24x^3y^5z / -2xy^3 Solution: Divide the coefficient = 24/2 = -12 Now divide the variables x^3y^5z / xy^3 = x^2y^2z The answer is -12 x^2y^2z Note: Take care of signs while dividing the coefficients.
Time To Get Real New Rocksmith Game Hooks Up To Actual Guitars
Time To Get Real New Rocksmith Game Hooks Up To Actual Guitars Suzy S. Ever since Rock Band and Guitar Hero were released, there have been opposing sides arguing for and against using the game as a learning tool â" after all, players dont use actual instruments or use correct finger placements for chords. But that controversy can be put to rest with the newest music game, Rocksmith â" and we canât wait to try it out! Rocksmith allows users to hook up their guitars directly to a PC, Playstation 3 or Xbox 360 through an output jack. The program features mini-games (a âGuitarcade,â if you will) to help improve your guitar skills, including games focused on fret placement, scale patterns, harmonics and slide technique. Advanced players can take advantage of the Technique Challenge, in which specific techniques must be repeated back, and sections that need work are highlighted and slowed down. This release got us thinking what other music games made a big impact on the industry? CNN recently wrote up a list of Top 10 Music Games Of All Time, and here a few that caught our eye: 1978: Simon Behind the music: Launched on May 15 at Studio 54, this Jurassic forerunner to todays touch-sensitive Nintendo DS featured four colored buttons (red, green, yellow and blue) and three simple variations on its gameplay. A great memory is crucial players have to repeat back a randomized or user-created sequence of lights and tones with a simple poke. Named after the childs game Simon Says and created by Ralph Baer who also invented home console gaming with the Magnavox Odyssey in 1972 it quickly became an American institution. Why it rocks: Besides single-handedly popularizing handheld electronic entertainment and directly influencing every subsequent system from the Game Boy to the PlayStation Portable (PSP), its pattern-based action formed the basis for nearly all music-themed titles to come. 1997: PaRappa the Rapper Behind the music: A far cry from what was going on with PCs at the time, this quirky PSOne Japanese import challenged players to bust a move by pressing buttons in time to featured beats. Do it correctly and you drop mad science on martial arts masters, moose driving instructors, Rastafarian frogs and chickens that pass for chefs. Captivating domestic audiences with its sing-song vibe, hypnotic play and psychedelic cardboard-cutout aesthetic, its still one of the freshest interactive approximations of emceeing hip-hop heads will find. Why it rocks: PaRappa brought the rhythm game category home to North American shores, which eventually gave birth to countless hip-wiggling rivals from Unison to Bust-A-Groove. And of course⦠2007: Rock Band Behind the music: The first game to combine all aspects of the virtual music-making experience (singing, pounding drums, playing guitar or plucking bass) was also the initial offering to deliver peripherals for all (including microphone, plastic drum set and faux ax) in one kit.In total, over 100 million digital songs have been downloaded for the Rock Band family of games, with more than 2,700 tracks from 900 artists including Metallica, The Ramones and Fleetwood Mac available across all retail and downloadable installments, including digital distribution platform the Rock Band Network. Thousands of masters, re-recordings or alternate tracks (all playable) by artists like Rush and Weezer, not to mention countless fans who can perform as cohesive four-man bands online should ensure it remains a house-party icebreaker of choice. Why it rocks: Providing the now-defunct MTV Games a then-marquee entrée into the gaming universe, it also laid the foundations for groundbreaking tributes (The Beatles: Rock Band), cutting-edge online innovations (Rock Band Network) and future motion-controlled games (Dance Central) to come. Here at TakeLessons, were all for any games that gets kids hooked and interested in music. Of course, the best way to learn is to work one-on-one with a music teacher, who can tailor the lessons specifically to you and your goals. (Need help finding a teacher? What is Statistics
What is Statistics Statistics is used to organize and analyze data. Data can be in any one of the form. For example after an examination a student is awarded with a percentage (from 0 to 100) which is equivalent to a particular grade like A 90%, B 75%, C 65%, D 50%, E 35%, F 35%. Grading system with respect to the percentage is done by some researchers. Statistics is also used for the purpose of prediction. Prediction is done by each and every individual at some point of life. In other words, if students of Mathematics start their class with reading formulae for 10minutes everyday for half of the semester then the students will have made a prediction about reading of the formulae in Mathematics class. The person is not sure that the same things will occur again instead he can just expect the same things will happen. Where is Statistics used? Biology and social sciences Finance Manufacturing Marketing research Management Biotechnology Computing The main goal of statistics is to study and to draw a conclusion from the changes occurred in the values of independent variables (prediction) on dependent variables (response). Observational and experimental are two major types of studies.
5 Tips for Learning a Foreign Language
5 Tips for Learning a Foreign Language The following piece was written by Tiffany Sorensen. Tiffany is a professional Spanish and SAT tutor for Varsity Tutors. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Spanish Language Literature from Stony Brook University. Contrary to popular opinion, there is no simple solution to quickly learning a foreign language. As with other academic subjects, the degree to which you understand and improve is proportionate to the amount of time and effort you expend. When it comes to learning another language, attitude plays a key role in how easily your brain absorbs information. Consider the below suggestions as approaches, not shortcuts. Keep these five points in mind as you begin or continue on your foreign language journey. 1.If you believe mastering another language will prove to be an effortless undertaking, youre in for a large shock. Beware of advertisements with taglines such as, Learn Italian in 48 hours! You can be certain that these claims are false. Unfortunately, theres just no way around the truth truly understanding a foreign language is a long, tedious process that may take several years. But dont be discouraged. The ability to converse in more than one language brings with it an incredible sense of accomplishment. In other words, its worth the struggle! 2.One of the most common errors that foreign language learners make is remaining silent so as to avoid mistakes. The sooner you realize that youre going to make errors and lots of them the better off youll be. Its okay to be incorrect. If you ask any foreign language teacher, he/she will tell you that it is exponentially better to say something incorrectly than to say nothing at all. Imagine how painful French class would be if no one dared to participate. The fact of the matter is that we learn best when making mistakes. Corrections may be uncomfortable, but youll likely never commit that same error again. Whats worse is to continue believing you know the right way to phrase something when you really dont. 3.Study after study has proven that the ideal way to learn another language is via total immersion that is, spending extensive periods of time in a country where the language is spoken. You can achieve this in a variety of ways: taking classes overseas through your college, working or volunteering abroad, or merely traveling for pleasure. While formal foreign language classes are useful for literacy purposes, only real-life interactions will prompt you to put what youve learned into practice. Until you converse with native speakers of another language, everything youve studied is purely theoretical. Also, reaching an advanced level of oral fluency in another language can only be achieved by consistently using it. Think of foreign language as a muscle; the more it is exercised, the stronger it becomes. 4.Dont limit yourself to just one variety of a foreign language. For instance, if you choose to learn Spanish, you should possess, at minimum, a general understanding of several dialects of Spanish. Language varies greatly from one geographical region to another. For example, consider how British and American English have wildly different sounds and expressions. The Spanish of Spain is drastically different from that of Mexico, and the same can be said of Chilean Spanish when compared to the Spanish of the Caribbean. These differences include variations in pronunciation, vocabulary, sentence structure, and slang. To focus entirely on any one dialect is impractical, as it limits the number of people with whom you can effectively communicate. 5.The English language has a reputation for readily assimilating foreign words into its vocabulary. This is beneficial to English speakers when learning other languages, especially the Romance languages, because there are many words that look alike and have similar meanings. Cognates, such as intelligent in English and inteligente in Spanish, are words derived from the same roots. Occasionally, it is obvious when two words are related, while at other times, it requires deeper analysis. At first sight, it may seem that the Spanish word for hand mano has no connection whatsoever with the English word, hand. However, consider the adjective manual, as in manual labor (labor performed with the hands). Noticing links between words will greatly help you to remember vocabulary. Nonetheless, there are several false cognates. These are words that look alike but actually signify entirely different things. For example, decepcin in Spanish actually means disappointment. So be certain to proceed with caution! Happy language learning!
